Awakening a troll from a Finnish necronomicon

So I've mentioned this TV show, Metalocalypse, before. Superficially, it's a death metal take on This Is Spinal Tap - complete with guest appearances by/references to well-known rock and metal acts such as Dimmu Borgir, Metallica, King Diamond, Danzig, Mayhem, Guns N' Roses, Cannibal Corpse and more.

While animated, the presence of a fantastic, authentically metal-sounding soundtrack by creator Brendon Small inspired the animators to give the band real gear (the show credits Gibson, Line 6, Krank and EMG, whose products all appear) and pay so much attention to detail that they accurately animate hand positions on guitars during performance segments. Anyone watching can learn the songs by paying attention.

Alongside the first series on DVD, you can now buy an album of Dethklok songs called The Dethalbum. I'm not a fan of metal, but it's actually pretty listenable. Here are a couple of my favourite songs from it, which will hopefully convince you to buy your own copy of The Dethalbum.
